We immigrated to USA long time ago from Russia. I
contribute to our not much access to all music back home in
communist time, this huge hunger we discover for all sort of
music that slowly grew to love of jazz music. For many years
we would go to flea market almost every weekend to have this
hunt for old records. We buy records on Saturday, we listen
them till next Saturday and then we buy some more. About 5
years ago we realized this great supplies of records
stopped. The internet era started... That worked out good
for us - we didn't spend that much anymore and we finally
was able to start listening on what we had.
My
personal discovery of vocal jazz came with Kimiko Itoh's
record - "Follow me". I can not tell you how many
times I heard each and every track. I went online and
purchased her "For Lover Only" LP. And my "japanese jazz
vocal" era started. I have to tell you that I proudly
own almost every known Japanese vocalist music. I also made
a lifelong friend, Hiroshi, thanks to my passion. This is
true internet made friendship story that I will tell another
day.
Few very vivid
milestones.
I'm fool
to want you. Junko Mine made me cry with this song.
Not many other singers did it so well. Sinatra. Billie
Holiday. And Junko. If you know someone else who did it
well, please write to me.
Autumn
Leaves. One of the best records ever had this track
- Jachinta's "Autumn Leaves". Thanks to her, I found
Eva Cassidy and her "Autumn Leaves".
You see, my like
of this kind of music is more like a chain reaction - I hear this
track (lets say "Black coffee"). I am on my journey to find out
why this song was written, who wrote it and then I will find
all singers who did it.
I really hope
that this site will help new vocal jazz singers to
present their music, I want this beautiful world of jazz
vocal to go on and on and on...
